Multiplication in Real Life

Who knew there was so much multiplication in the real world? On one of our Walking Wednesdays, the students were asked to look for examples of multiplication in the neighbourhood. After taking some pictures, the students were asked to use Powerpoint to demonstrate multiplication as the repeated addition of equal groups.(Shown below is work by Matthew, Jacob and Parwez.

What are we doing?

Each week students walk through their local community to a meadow on the edge of the Rouge River Valley. These “place based” environment activities are integrated with curriculum areas and meet the Ministry’s environmental policy found in Acting Today, Shaping Tomorrow.

Our philosophy is to engage students through experiential learning and to cover as wide a range of curriculum as possible. Using Walking Wednesdays as a jumping off point, we have covered Ministry curriculum expectations in Science, Social Studies, Mathematics, Language and the Arts.
